Mr. Egon F. Hawrylak
Mr. Egon F. Hawrylak was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as the deputy commander, Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region (JFHQ-NCR) and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (USAMDW) on April 29, 2007. Mr. Hawrylak assists the commanding general in conducting the full spectrum of military operations in the National Capital Region; coordinates with key interagency partners to ensure proper alignment of strategic initiatives; and oversees support functions such as fiscal, manpower, personnel, logistics, operations, intelligence and readiness.
Prior to assuming his present position, Mr. Hawrylak served as the deputy director for Operations, JFHQ-NCR and USAMDW, serving as the principal advisor to the director of Operations. He was responsible for the military planning interagency coordination of high-profile National Special Security Events including the World War II Memorial Dedication, Presidential State of the Union Address, state funerals for President Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, and the 2005 Presidential Inauguration.
Mr. Hawrylak is from Toledo, Ohio, and has more than 33 years of government service as a civil service employee and member of the Armed Forces. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Toledo and was commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry in June 1974. He has held a variety of leadership, staff and executive-level positions in the United States and overseas.
Mr. Hawrylak served 30 years as a Regular Army officer with assignments to Germany, Honduras, Somalia, and the United States. He served as the director of Operations for the JFHQ-NCR and USAMDW; as a division chief within the J7 Directorate, The Joint Staff; director of Plans, Force Integration and Analysis for the U.S. Army Personnel Command; chief of staff and deputy commander for Joint Task Force-Bravo in Honduras; and as a commander in the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. Other leadership positions have been in multiple Infantry organizations.
Mr. Hawrylak holds a Master of Arts degree in national security affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Science degree in national security strategy from the National War College. He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Course, the Armed Forces Staff College and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.
Mr. Hawrylak’s key awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Ranger Tab, the Parachute Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Joint Staff Identification Badge.
